Anybody feel that taking English in high school felt like a strict and regular schedule?
And the assignments felt 'right in your face' oppressive?
Back then, the teacher had to tell you to do this and do that. The how part was essentially up to you. The teacher almost always would decide what the topic would be for essays and I think I had a writer's block all the time. And I actually went to that class 5 times per week and for 4 years...
Being at a university feels different.
Sure, I know I still have to be committed to attending class and fulfill my obligation of doing coursework, but at the same time, everything feels generally relaxed. This semester, I took English for 2 days per week and 3 days per week last semester during the fall.
For a guy who's just gotten out of high school, I at first felt decentralizing relief, but of course that relief is replaced by responsibility of knowing I have to attend class and still to get work done in the greater span of my free time.
I wonder what would happen if high school could be restructered similarly like college in that we are given relative freedom to choose when we can have class if possible and also choose the number of courses we want.
But for public school officails, I think that's revisionary crap.
During the 90s, I believe high schools in Massachusetts (or at least Lowell where I'm from) there was a study hour and either 5-6 courses per day. Now study hour is gone and is replaced by a total of 7 courses. Each day. Ouch!

I agree I feel that when a teacher gave you a topic to write about it made it much easier. also not having the same class everyday seems generaly relaxed.
