I just want to comment on the third statement, "Technology diminishes human relationships." I personally do not believe this to be true. WHile I here about a lot of stories involving girlfriends figuring out their boyfriends password and infiltrating their network. Thus, finding out all the dirt they didn't know the significant other had. While this most definitely led to a break up of a human relationship, the fault does not lie on technology. Technology doesn't diminish human relationships, humans diminish their own relationships. When Facebook wasn't around boyfriends and girlfriends were still breaking up with each other over some dirt they found out on them.
1a) Various media of technology (specifically the internet) help us to use time more efficiently. For example, nowadays it is far more easy to simply do research on the internet for a paper/project/etc; some people's sources are entirely internet-based, where others simply use the internet to find hard sources. Before the internet, research required spending countless hours at a library digging through piles of books & attempting to find something useful. Nearly all of today's technologies provide one thing: instant gratification. That is to say, that simply by utilizing these technologies, you get what you want very quickly. Whether it be through GPS (to find directions), cell phones (stay in constant contact with friends), or the internet (to have a constant flow of information at your fingertips), you get the answer you are looking for in a short amount of time.
2a) Technology has been utilized for years to provide a safer environment, specifically by homeland security. Customs operations at airports have been using x-ray scanners, metal detectors & computer databases full of known criminals for decades. Obviously, as these new technologies emerge to protect us, they can also be used for malignant reasons. For example, airport security is attempting to counteract sophisticated bomb-making by using a new machine which blasts suspects with puffs of air. The air is then analyzed by sophisticated electronics to detect even the slightest trace amounts of certain chemicals/elements that could be used to create an explosive. Security forces have become so dependent on technology these days that there would be major issues if even one of these components malfunctioned.
3b) I do believe that utilizing various media of technology enable you to expand your network of "friends". I put that word in quotations because according to some people, unless you know them in real life, they are not your friends. I, obviously, do not agree with this. With social networking sites such as Facebook & MySpace, instant messaging clients such as AIM, & even gaming networks such as Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, users are able to communicate with all sorts of people from all sorts of locations.
Great job on the assumptions, questions and influencing factors. Also, your final product shows cohesiveness and group unity. Group Grade: A
